CRETE HERAKLION AIRPORT GUIDE

Heraklion Airport or officially named Nikos Kazantzakis Airport is the main airport on Crete handling anything up to 140 flights a day in the height of the season. Named after the Greek writer, best known for "Zorba the Greek" and philosopher the airport is located 5kms from the main city of Heraklion (Iraklion).

Driving Directions from Heraklion Airport:
By car: Follow the signs for Alikarnassos and/or Heraklion to get to the city centre. By bus: Buses run from the car park in front of the terminal to Platia Eleftherias (near the Archaeological Museum) every 15-20 minutes between 6 am and 11 pm. The trip takes roughly 20 minutes. Fare: € 0.65. By Taxi: There is a taxi rank in front of the terminal building. The trip into the city centre takes 15 minutes. Car Parking at Heraklion Airport:
There are long and short-stay car parks in front of the terminal.

Car Hire at Heraklion Airport:
Companies include Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt and Thrifty and are located in the arrivals hall.

Public Transport at Heraklion Airport:
Bus No.1 goes to and from the airport every 15 minutes and leaves from near the Astoria Capsis Hotel on Plateia Eleftherias. A taxi to the airport will cost approx. € 8 to 9. There are three intercity bus stations located in Heraklion serving all the major towns in eastern Crete

Unfortunately as hard as we tried, we could not locate any useful information on disabled facilities at Heraklion Airport (poor show!) and are now awaiting further details as requested from the Greek Airports Authority.
